Ambient Recording was founded in Munich in 1989 by two sound engineers and one of them, Günter Knon, is still the general manager. When Günter was hired to record the sound of complex multi-camera productions with documentary content, the Sony cameras' timecode drift caused significant problems in post-production. It was impossible to connect all the cameras together, so an additional device was needed and in 1993 the Lockit box was born, a black box with a 5p. Lemo socket and two BNC connectors. This box has evolved into the ACN Lockit with additional functionality.
In addition, Ambient Recording is also a manufacturer of long-range booms and has developed into a market leader by continuously looking for ways to improve it. Anyone who has ever held a rod knows how physically demanding this can be and how every gram less at the tip makes the job easier, especially when the rod is pulled out for a very long time.
